Week 3

This weeks post is going to deviate from the 52 week project a little as most people know my parents house caught fire this morning.  I had planned to take our family picture after church when we were all still dressed up but we never made it to church.  Their furnace caught fire and it ran under the house. The fire followed the duct work and broke through the floor and really burned up the underside of the house. The entire house filled with smoke. It went up the walls and you can see where it was coming out at the top of the house.  At first glance the house doesn't that bad but when you look closer you can see how bad it really is.  Even stuff that doesn't look burned is covered in smoke.  All you have to do is pick it up and you can see the black on your hands.  The main thing is that my Mom and my Dad and Nisee are alright. Yes, Nisee was spending the night with them last night, of all nights!

Smoke alarms woke my Mom and Dad up before they could even see smoke.  My Dad found it at the furnace and he ran to his boat to get the fire extinguishers he had there.  He emptied 2 of them right into the fire location, it slowed but didn't stop.  My Mom took Nisee to the van and kept her there.  They grabbed a few pictures and some clothes but then they went outside to wait on the fire department who arrived very quickly!  It was during this time that the smoke really filled the house and my Dad inhaled some smoke.  Center, County Line, and Harmony VFW responded and put out the fire.  MANY THANKS go to all of those who helped!  They credited my Dad's quick thinking of using the fire extinguisher in slowing the fire which bought them enough time to get there and was probably what saved the structure of the house. Later I had to take my Dad to the ER because he was having problems breathing but good news was that after a breathing treatment and some oxygen he was feeling a lot better and they let him go home!

So this week my picture is of some of the damage to their house where the fire started and I am also including another picture but the 1st one is my official post.

Please make sure your smoke alarms are in working order and a fire extinguisher is always a good thing to have around.  I thank God that my parents had these because if they didn't this could have been a much worse story!
